Happy Colorful Paisley Cupcakes

Hello there :)
This time I baked cupcakes for a friend who likes teal color, paisleys and flowers :D

My idea was to make some bright colored cupcakes with henna-like elements.
I tried to make some paisley and lotus flowers designs but I had some troubles with my royal icing (it was my very first try to decorate using royal icing)...

I baked some chocolate cupcakes (using my favorite no-butter/sugar cake recipe)

I kneaded fondant and I colored it teal using blue and yellow food coloring

I covered the cakes with chocolate praline and fondant

I prepared yellow, orange, coral red and purple icing

and I decorate the cupcakes :)

Hope you liked my cupcakes :)

i thing i saw a pussycat

Some weeks ago I've been asked to sew a kitty for a little girl : )
Myrto loved the [the cat with the cassette], so she received one as Xmas present!

Her godmother told me that she likes purple, flowers and cute things like buttons.

The kitty's got a little denim bow,

floral details on the dress,

and a necklace
which we replace it with a...

...boutonniere to the final project!
(but i forgot to reshoot it...oops! sorry...)

I hope, little Myrto spents a lot of fun time, playing with her new kitty : )

Starry nights - Sunny days Cupcakes

OK, people. Here is a fact: "If you start to bake cupcakes, you'll never stop!".
I'm not sure where this obsession becomes from...
Is it the size? The colors? The endless ways to serve them? The friends asking for more?

This time I decide to make them a bit playful.
I decorate some of them with suns and flowers, and the rest of them with moons and little balls-like-stars,  which I've made out of fondant.

I used ganache cream instead of frosting, and mini chocolate cupcakes.
Chocolate is the best!

I found these shaped tiny cutters, on a very old cooking tool.
I'm not sure what is made to do this tool, but used to be my mum's and I thing is Tupperware.

The moon shape is easy to make it using just a circular cutter (as I did here).
I thing that I liked more the "starry nights" cupcakes than the "sunny days".
Both of them were delicious thought!

Homegrown vegies in the down town

Some months ago, my husbie started to plant some vegetable seeds like
tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, peppers and beets.
He spends at least an hour a day to water and trim our little plants. Two months later, we harvest once a week our goodies!
He's so proud of our garden and I'm so proud of his garden skills! xoxo

It’s so cool the fact that we live in the center of Athens and we eat salad right from our balcony-field!
Here are some tips and a DIY that will make your life easier :)

What can you make using a eco-friendly reusable bag + gravel + soil + seeds + old bed slats?
A handmade flower bed!

DIY flower bed (full of young tomatoes)
1) Using the bed slats he made an opened box.
2) Then he put in the reusable eco bags
3) He filled them with soil, covering the bottom of the bags with gravel.
  4) he planted the seeds and with water and much-much love...: ta-da!

the first harvest!!!

It’s absolutely save to grow your plants in eco-bags.
So far we grow our own herbs (like basil, mint, rosemary, thyme, oregano, lavender), vegetables (like tomatoes, olives, chilies, sweet peppers, cucumbers and lettuce) and fruits (like melons, watermelons & strawberries).

growing your own food at home is a step closer to independency ;)

1st of May and flower wreath

Τhere’s an old, traditional wont. Greeks make a flower wreath every first of May!
Τhis year we made a really big wreath. Our

grandmas were adding  garlic and some nettle-grass , but we didn’t.
